headus (metamorphosis) is a company headquartered in Perth, WA, Australia and deals in the supply of a wide range of three-dimensional scanning products as well as services. The company, with its products and services caters to the requirement of entertainment, health care and industrial design industries not just in Australia, but across the globe.
The formation of the company dates back to 1994, following the development of CySurf (a tool which designed for the fitting of NURBS patches to head scans and 3-D face) and its success. 1995 saw the opening of a scanning bureau for the promotion of further development and improvement of the software. The company has acquired four scanners since then and have also successfully developed three software, namely CyDir, CySlice and UV Layout. The company has also become the sole distributor of CyberWare 3-D scanner (colour) in Australia as well as New Zealand. A second office was opened in January 2000 in Fox Studios, Sydney.
The major three areas of operation (including both products and services) of the company includes 3-D scanning, 3-D tools and training and support for Cyberware 3-D scanners. The 3-D scanning software that was developed by headus has been utilised for the production of special effects in famed movies such as Titanic, King Kong and Pitch Black. The software developed by the company is used by the Armed forces of US to build or make close-fitting masks, which control scarring of burns and it is also used to assist in the designing of the uniform. Every single Cyberware 3-D scanner, which is sold across the globe, is accompanied with headus software.
